A Manifesto for a Simple Life

“When things aren’t adding up in your life, start subtracting.” –Anon

Happy December!

With the new month comes one of the craziest, busiest times of year with an abundance of social commitments, crowds, shopping, and just plain congestion – not just in our physical world but often times emotionally and mentally. It’s easy to let the stress of the season take a toll on our overall well-being and the start of December is the perfect time to set some goals for the next few weeks to keep things simple and focused.

For me personally, I am making an extra effort not to over-book myself with commitments and build in time throughout the week to have quiet moments to myself. Living simply takes discipline and I’m paying special attention to not get caught up in the materialism of the season of buy, buy, buy and remind myself daily that this is a time for love and giving. This is also the perfect time of the year to find ways to give back, whether it’s serving Christmas dinner to those who need it or gifting toys to children of the incarcerated or donating your services and talents to help your community –  all are favorite family traditions of ours – there are so many ways to get involved and offer yourself up in service to others!

What are some ways you are keeping your holiday season simple? What is the biggest challenge you face in creating a stress-free month?
