Happy October! Even though this week is in the 70’s and 80’s in northeast Ohio, I am definitely in full-on fall mood. With the turn of the autumn season always comes the dreaded flu season right behind it. My daughter waking up with a congested head and scratchy throat this morning was the perfect reminder that kids are full of germs and I’m starting to see flu shot posters and advertisements all over the place.
The flu shot has never really been something I’ve considered getting. Growing up, my parents never gave us the flu shot and I hardly ever remember being sick or having the flu even being that big of deal. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my daughter that I even considered getting a flu shot, and even then I refused one. Each fall season I am inevitably asked by my kids’ physicians if I want to give them their shot and I always decline. I am by no means a chemist or an expert on this subject, but I did some research and what I found is so incredibly scary.
Why don’t we get the flu shot in my household? Here’s why…
How the flu shot works:
There is no single virus that causes the flu and there isn’t just one perfect vaccination that will protect you against all the different viruses of flu out there. They guess at what flu strain will be the prominent flu this season and then create a vaccination that contains an inactivated strain of this virus. As your body fights against this virus, it actually lowers your immune system, making you more susceptible to other similar flu virus and illnesses. Your body creates all kinds of antibodies to attack this injected virus so if you are exposed to a bug, your body doesn’t have enough time to recoup and restore your defense system.
Then…there’s no guarantee you’ll even be protected from the flu virus that you got the vaccination for because viruses change and evolve over time. What the strain looked like months and months ago when the vaccination was created may be very different chemically from what they inject into you. The simulation from the vaccination may not be enough to really protect you fully from contracting the virus. It does take time to produce vaccines, so if a different flu starts to cause problems this season, a new vaccine can’t be instantly produced to combat an outbreak.
What is found in the flu shot:
Not only does the flu shot have zero guarantee of even protecting you…but it’s is FULL of harmful, toxic ingredients that have lasting negative affects on us. Many of these neurotoxins are linked to rises in autism and neurological disorders…why would I ever want to put these things into my body or even worse, my developing child’s body?
A few ingredients found in the Flu Shot:
- Egg Proteins: including avian contaminant viruses
- Gelatin: can cause allergic reactions and anaphylaxis are usually associated with sensitivity to egg or gelatin
- Polysorbate 80 (Tween80™): can cause severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Also associated with infertility in female mice.
- Formaldehyde: is a toxin known to cause cancer, classified as a human carcinogen
- Triton X100: a strong detergent
- Sucrose: table sugar
- Resin: known to cause allergic reactions
- Gentamycin: an antibiotic
- Thimerosal*: a compound made up of approximately 50% mercury. Mercury is the second most poisonous element known to man!
- Benzethonium Chloride: is toxic when inhaled or ingested and is also hazardous to human skin. Based on animal testing, it may cause mutations in genetic information and also be carcinogenic (cause cancer)
- Glutaraldehyde: an organic compound that is used to disinfect medical and dental equipment, exposure to it can cause asthma, allergic reactions, induced respiratory issues or diarrhea
- Aluminum: a neurotoxin known to cause Alzheimers
*Please NOTE: According to the CDC, vaccines labeled “thimerosal-free” often have a little asterisk next to those words which lead you to something like: “This vaccine has ‘trace’ amounts of thimerosal, which the FDA says is equivalent to thimerosal-free products.” If you look closer into “thimerosal-free” vaccines, you will actually find that there is still a toxic amount of mercury contained in them!
How is this possible?
You may be asking yourself how this is even possible for the CDC and educated professionals to recommend and promote Americans getting the flu shot? Business. Profit. Fear. It’s extremely profitable for the drug companies and their marketing does an outstanding job mis-educating us. This is a booming industry and the fear of getting the flu is so heightened and ingrained in us over the last decade that we make decisions based on our fears.
I know this subject can be the cause of much debate, and I’m definitely not here to judge other people’s decisions or reasons because we are all living our own lives and trying to do the best job we can. Everyone needs to do what is right for themselves and their families. But I do encourage you to do your research before injecting anything into your body just because your doctor or pharmacist recommends it!
